JACOB SETTLE, MA, LPC
Clinical Supervisor for LPC
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) committed to caring and serving for those in need. I believe in the inherent value and potential for transformation of every human being and it is part of my aim as a therapist to help elicit and develop one’s gifts in order to bring meaning and empower individuals to take control of their lives in constructive ways. Given the uniqueness of every individual, I assume a holistic lens in accounting for emotional, physical, and spiritual domains that may need attention.
For the last nine years as a mental health clinician, I have worked with adults, adolescents & children addressing a range of issues including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, PTSD (trauma), attachment disorders, family dysfunction, behavioral disorders, couple’s work, eating disorders, and other related mood/emotional problems. I have also worked with children in the foster care system, parents attempting to regain custody of their children and families that were at very high risk. My style is to support and challenge individuals through strengths-based interventions that draw upon existing skills, positive assets, and capabilities. This may include the use of talk therapy, motivational interviewing, role-playing exercises, discernment counseling, relaxation techniques, social skills development, and reflective listening to facilitate an improved quality of life.
I received my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Regent University and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology as well as Recreation & Leisure Studies from Virginia Wesleyan University. I have also participated in a wide range of community-based services addressing homelessness, racial disparities, and the spiritual life and development of adolescents. I draw from theoretical approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Attachment Theory, and Person-Centered Therapy in an integrative fashion to guide treatment that is tailored to each individual’s needs. I consider walking alongside of others in their journey a privilege that can never be taken for granted and it is humbling to play a role in the therapeutic process.
